We are employment lawyers at a small, dynamic DC-based firm, Trister, Ross, Schadler & Gold, PLLC. A member of our group is planning leave for February – May 2026.
We’re looking for an experienced attorney who can parachute in to help our progressive nonprofit clients navigate employment laws.
Our practice is collaborative and innovative.

Most of the lawyers in our group started on the employee side.
Now, we focus on two things: advising progressive non-profit employers and negotiating and litigating for individual employees.
Our whole firm is motivated by a basic set of principles and values: social justice, fairness, and enabling our clients to use the law most effectively to achieve their goals. Our attorneys are proud to advise and represent a broad range of clients, from national nonprofits, unions, and political organizations to individual plaintiffs in the federal and private sectors. We understand and value the qualities that make nonprofits unique institutions.
Job responsibilities for this position will include:
- Advising nonprofits on all aspects of employment law compliance.
- Creating, reviewing, and updating employee handbooks.
- Workplace investigations.
- Negotiating to resolve disputes for non-profit employers.
- Defending nonprofits facing investigations on employment issues.
- As needed, participating in representing individual employees, including counseling, investigating, negotiating, and litigating in administrative forums and courts.
We are looking for a lawyer with a collaborative disposition and the ability to work on several projects at once.
We prefer a Washington, D.C. area attorney. Washington, DC-based members of our group work 2 to 3 days per week at our Dupont Circle office and the rest from home. Applicants must be admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia or eligible to waive in for admission to the D.C. Bar.
Compensation will be tied to experience, ranging from $120/hour – $150/hour. Our firm provides sick leave and health insurance.
